We already know that Pune-based developer SuperGaming is developing one of the first fully Made-in-India battle royale game, Indus. Apart from the artwork and a short gameplay video, there is not much that has been revealed by the developer so far. However, this was enough for fans to compare the game to EA’s Apex Legends.
SuperGaming has been posting a lot of development updates on Indus’s YouTube channel where we got to see some gun mechanics, location reveals, and more. Naturally, it was found by content creators who appreciated the game for its concept of Indo-Futurism and overall gameplay. However, there were a bunch of responses from fans who called the game a blatant rip-off of Apex Legends.
In a statement provided to IGN India, Game Director Jwalant Gangwar said “We’re extremely delighted that our game is being compared to Apex Legends. Respawn Entertainment is a huge source of inspiration for all of us on the team. That being said, this isn’t the intent. As the game is deep in development we’re still going through multiple iterations and several art styles to see what’s the right look and feel to deliver the best possible version of Indo-Futurism. The final product will look different and have various other changes under the hood as we hope to be India’s best battle royale game. Weapon systems across games especially with standard archetypes could look similar in form and functionality but even that is being addressed as we get deeper in some of our Indo-Futuristic Identity pieces.”
Additionally, Jwalant also mentioned that fans comparing SuperGaming’s titles with other games isn’t really new to them. “Our earlier games like Silly Royale and MaskGun did sport a look similar to other popular games like Among Us and Counter-Strike before finally launching with their own distinct identity and gameplay. We intend to do the same with Indus.”
So far, we have only seen a couple of concept art videos and a few seconds of gunplay which hardly shows the true essence of what SuperGaming’s vision is for the game. Hence, drawing such stark comparisons to already established titles is a little harsh. The concept of Indo-Futurism is something that we haven’t seen before in a game and surely SuperGaming has something special up its sleeve with Indus.
